Have you ever been out for dinner and been confused by the number of knives and forks? Fret not, as you will not be facing that scenario during the Lunar New Year. However, you might just fall to temptation when being surrounded by CNY goodies.
In order to uphold a gentleman’s pride, there are four rules that you should adhere to.
1) Pay attention to your hosts – As a gentleman, you should be an observant diner and pick up on cues from your host. This will enable you to avoid the embarrassing situations you could find yourself in. Simple things like rushing to eat that last piece of Bakkwa, just let it go.
2) Do not talk with food in your mouth and chew with your mouth closed – Despite being in the 21st century, we still have a problem with people chewing with their mouths wide open. A gentleman only puts one pineapple tart in his mouth each time.
3) Bring your food to your face, not your face to your food – You shouldn’t be leaning over your food and shoving it all into your mouth. Instead, be a sophisticated gentleman, use your chopsticks and bring it directly to your mouth.
4) Say Thank You, Please, and Excuse Me – No one has ever gotten themselves into trouble for using these words. These small words are magic and you should be able to get more pineapple tarts by using it.
Now you’re all set to impress, and you can thank us later.
